I have tried to make my media product look as much like a professional product as I can and I believe it could compete with them at any level. I have got all of the main conventions needed for a magazine. My title is at the top of the page and is the biggest font on the page. My magazine is called ‘Final Cut’. It’s a very catchy name and it relates with media and music very well. I have one big main image on the cover which is the band that my feature article is on. The models are all wearing quite unique clothes and have style which relates very well to the audience that I am trying to attract. I have not used props in the picture as I felt I would really be using them when they weren’t needed. I think a simple photo like the one I used would work best. The age and attitude really adds to the effect of the image. People who are into that type of music, like alternative people, would be very interested in the band and magazine. The mastheads placement and font helps it to stand out very well. People read down the page, so having it bold, big and at the top was the best thing to do. The language that I have used is very short and simple but gets straight to the point. So that it can be read quickly if it was on a shelf in a shop. This will help attract potential buyers. The music that my magazine is based around is mainly rock music. Like Kerrang magazine. So it will attract people who are under the stereotype of Goth’s, Emo’s and alternative people. The rock genre is suggested due to the language that has been used in the feature article. The font and images that have been used also suggest that the genre would be quite rebellious, like rock music. The contents page has been laid out with images on the left and page references on the right in a separate coloured box. The feature article has also been put in a bigger front so it’s easy to see. The images on the left show off picture which represent some of the articles that you can read in the magazine. Under images you can find captions which give more information to the reader. There is also an editor’s note so it makes the contents page look a lot more professional. There is also a quote from a member of the band in the feature article on the contents to give the reader a taste of what’s to come. My double page spread consists of a big picture on the left hand page with a caption saying who it is, and an interview on the right. The interviewer’s questions are in black and the interviewee is answering the questions in red. There is also a drop cap at the start of the interview. The page numbers can be found in the bottom corners. The title stands out a lot with the scribble styled font I used and there is a quote that has been pulled out, it’s been placed under the title. In the top right there is a small side bar which tells the readers where they can find the band. I have also used gutters to give it a more professional look. I have also got a kicker right under the title to give a general overview of what the interview is for.
