Smash Hits

It's easy to see that smash hits is for a younger audience, i would say probably between 7-13. In te class of C1, C2, D On the front there are pictures of two famous female popstars which appeal to the younger age group. The colours of the magazine are also very girly, mainly being pink. There are also free posters up inside the magazine which will make younger children want to buy the magazine. The font of the magazine is also quite girly styled and everything on the front of the magazine relates to girls. The sub titles which are on this cover would also relate to a young female audience. Everything on the front of this magazine is defonitely related to a young female audience. There is not to much going on on the cover of this magazine either which makes it very simple for a younger audience to digest. The way that everything has been set out on the front of this magazine is very exciting and messy which is what younger audiences want to see. The way there is a big circle flying out with part of the magazine mentioned in it is exciting for them.

KERRANG!

From looking at the cover of this magazine it is easy to tell that this magazine could be directed at a male audience. In the class of C1. C2, D. However, a number of females could also want to read this. The main image is of a male rock band who look as if they could be quite rebelious and also quite stylish. The colours are all quite dark as well, so this would indicate that it would be for a much older and mature audience compared to smash hits. There are free posters being givin away in the magazine, but they are both of male bands which look like they could cause trouble. Down the right hand side there are smaller pictures displaying a monster and another male rock star. The font of this magazine is also very sharp and messy making it look like quite a dark and different magazines, made for people who want to be different and not just follow the croud. The barcode and price is on the bottom right of this magazine, and it shows it isn't to expensive. This means that working class people can afford it. This magazine has been set out in a much more mature way which will appeal to an older audience.

Contents Page Analysis

Smash Hits

The Smash Hits contents page will appeal to the younger female audience. There are lots of bright colours, which are mainly colours that girls like, to grab a readers attention and near enough every page is labeled showing what is going to be on each page. There are also pictures at the bottom of different pop stars which might appeal to girls. The font used is also quite simple and easy to read which is ideal for a younger audience. The different sections are also split up in ways which makes it very easy for people to see what pages cover what topicsm which is good for a younger audience.

KERRANG!

The kerrang contents page looks like it would mainly be for a male audience. I think this because all of the colours are very dark and plain. It also has just brief summarys next to the page numbers to let the reader no what will be on each page. This makes it feel like it could be for a slightly mature audience. There is also a main image of a main doing a symbol with his hand and is also covered in tattooss. This also makes it feel as if this magazine is meant for older teenagers and perhaps for people who like to rebel or try to be different. They would not just follow the normal crowd like this man is showing. There are also smaller images which show off other musicians which are also mainly all mail. The fact that they are all mail might also appeal to a female audience as they think that they could be good looking.

Analysis Of Feature Articles

KERRANG! Feature Article

After Looking through this article its easy to see that its very chatty towards the reader. It talks quite personally as if the reader is talking to a friend. So i would say that its for a working class person. The article from the start to finish seems like its jokey and funny, and the language used backs this point up well. It also has small interviews through out with the individual band members which also seems like its very chatty and fun to read. It makes the reader feel very engaged with the band and article. There are quite a lot of pictures on this feature article aswell showing some close shots and medium close shots of the band. They are all doing things which look fun and stupid, which will spread even more humour into the article. The small captions on the pictures also show this. The colours all over this double page spread are colourful and fun like the band featured in the article. It seems like there is more imagery used then actual text making it seem easy for the reader to look through, also showing that this magazine could be aimed at a lower classed person. This article also matches the front cover of the magazine very well using similar text and images. Looking at technical aspects of this article you can see that gutters have been used to spread the text out, as well as some white space. There is also a side bar at the bottom showing more information and a main body of text through out.

SmashHits Feature Article

This article is completely different, even though i would say it is still aimed at people living in a working class background. Perhaps a little higher. This article has bright, girly colours. The language used still seems to be quite chatty, but a little less personal. The topic that the feature article is written about is for helping charaties and has a female pop star featured in the top right corner which is a medium close shot. That is the only image on this feature, except there is also a photo of a letter on the right. There is no humour in this article and it also does very little to engage the reader. There is no real interview in this article either, so it doesnt seem like you are talking personally to the female pop star. The article doesn't seem as fun a layed back as the KERRANG! one. However, because of what the article is about and who is involved in the article it would dfonitely appeal to a younger female reader. There are sub-headings being used as well as gutters. Its easy to see that there is a main body of text.

Music Journalism: All Time Low DVD

KERRANG! Magazine: All Time Low Review
So everyone, its finally here. I know a lot of you have been waiting around most of the year watching clips on the internet, but its here. The All Time Low DVD. After watching, im deciding if it was really worth the wait. The Live Show section of the DVD isn't bad. It has all of their greatest hits on it and they put on the All Time Low gig that we all know and love. Terrible jokes, terrible language, and a load of screaming girls. They play all their songs extremely accurately, which in some ways is irritating. It just sounds like the CD and doesnt give off much of a live feel. Maybe thats just me. It feels as if after i watched it 3 times i would have had enough and it would be stuck in the dvd pile and gather dust. Don't knock it off yet though. The DVD also has a feature section, and in my mind this is the best part of the DVD. It tells a pretty in depth story of how they made it and become the band they are now. But there is also so much humour involved it just makes it so watchable. It shows such a large amount of stuff, which just should not be allowed to be shown. Pleanty of nudity girls. I do love this section of the DVD. So, live show section is pretty average but worth seeing, but if you just want to watch the All Time Low lads making a fool of themselves, this is the greatest ATL item you could own.

NME: All Time Low Review
The All Time Low DVD was released a little earlier this year with a lot of anticapation behind it. With their forever growing fan base, i feel as if it was well worth the release of a live show. It would certainly guarantee a large amount of sales. On the whole, its not a bad DVD at all. The live show section of the DVD is incredible. The songs are played with a very high level of accuracy and are note perfect. However, this also bored me a little, as i felt as if it took away the atmosphere of All Time Low live. All of their greatest hits are played, which i was very happy to see, and the crowd in the dvd watching are also very active. The DVD also has another Feature section which is very entertaining, but worth the 15 age certificate. Its quite inapropriate through out and shows scenes of nudity. So if this DVD is bought for a 10 year old who love All Time Low, this feature should not be viewed by the child. It also has a lot of terrible language through out which could offend, but teenagers would be into this section. All together i think that the All Time Low DVD is very good for a specific audience. The die hard fans would kill to get a copy of it, and it will also grab the attention of people who would never listen to All Time Low.
4/5 stars.

Full analysis of one Music magazine

Im doing a complete analysis on a kerrang magazine. I have found a contents page, front cover and an article from the magazine. The article and front cover of the magazine is obviously based around one band. The band being You Me At Six. The front cover also has a lot of other images on it displaying all of the things that you can find in the magazine. The contents page also has one main image and a lot of smaller ones that of artists that you can find in the issue. It also displays the main stories and the pages that the stories can be found on. Dark colours have been used to give off quite a gothic and rebelious feel. The main article appears to have very little writing, and has a lot of images covering the majority of the page. You can see a band having a lot of fun with captions along side them giving off a little more information. There is also some information displayed under the pictures. But the pictures defonitely outway the text. There are a lot of images through out the whole of the magazine with very little text. There are also a lot of adverts in the magazine displaying bands tour date, gigs and festivals. You can also find an area where you can subscribe to the magazine. It might also advertise some things to do with gaming. These are all advertised as this is what people who read the magazine would be interested in. Also, people will be willing to pay a lot of money to have what they want advertised in this magazine. This magazine can be found for £2.30 as an average price and there is one issue every month. In 6 months in the year 2008 50 000 copies were sold. The magazine was first published in 1981 and since then it has grown rapidly. The magazine is also the number one rock magazine. This type of magazine will probably meant for people seen as 'Emos' or 'Goths'. Class wise i would say that this type of magazine would be meant for a working class person, meaning C2, C1, B. The price is cheap and the magazine is seen as being quite rebelious, like the working class people are thought to be. The magazine is sold in a huge number of different places as there is such a high demand for the magazine.

Ideas For My Music Magazine

I want my music magazine to be styled around rock, punk and power pop. So my magazine will probably end up being much like Kerrang magazine. I will have a feature article based around one band and the main image on the front cover of the magazine will be the same one thats in the feature page. It will also have a few other images. I will price this magazine at £2 as that would suit the working class price. (C1, C2). I want it consist of 3 main colours, but im yet to decide which 3. There is going to be more images then writing i would feel as that what people want to see in that style of magazine.

Mood Board For My Style Of Magazine

This mood board shows off what style of people would want to read the type of magazine that i will be creating. Its very similar to KERRANG! showing off the same genre of music but in a new way which i will try to think of. All of the pictures on this mood board show off what all of the people who want to buy my magazine would be like. However, it is quite stereotypical. i would say the people would be maily working class in the C1, C2 group. This magazine would also be quite cheap which would suit the class that these people are under.

Breakdown Of Cast, Props, etc

I will be using my own band as the cast and will take pictures of them. I will try to find a really good location to take the images, like an old church. I am also considering a picture of the band in a bedroom playing on a games console. If not, hopefully i can find somewhere sceneic. I will try to find some inventive props, but if i can't i will be using instruments. Props would probably be controllers and things similar to that to represent how much fun the band is. If i were to do one which is in a gaming situation i would rearange my room and have the band facing the camera with controllers gaming.

  1. This is looking very good Stuart Pearce. Now get cracking on the construction, so that you have enough time to do a good job of it.
